Nominations For Our 2017 Awards Are Now Open!

The best awards of the year are back! The Animal Hero Awards in partnership with the RSPCA are now looking for your amazing nominations. Do you know a devoted dog , fearless feline or a plucky parrot?

If so, we want to hear from you because nominations open today.

Whether it is a cat or dog that has battled back from neglect, a loyal animal that has transformed someone’s life or a service animal which risks its life in the line of duty, you can put them forward.

We also want to hear about people who have dedicated their lives to animal welfare and conservation.

Our team will consider every entry and the winners will be honoured during a star-studded dinner in London.

TV star Amanda Holden is returning to host the Mirror’s Animal Hero Awards for the fifth year running.

Last year’s winners included a trio of Manchester police horses who went beyond the call of duty when football thugs went on the rampage, and Lucy, a Cavalier spaniel rescued from the horrors of a puppy farm who became the figurehead of a national campaign against the vile trade.

Among the night’s emotional highlights were the heartwarming story of Haatchi, a rescued dog who formed a life-changing bond with a young boy, and Baxter, a labrador who saved a six-year-old girl’s life when she suffered a seizure.

Baxter also provided the most hilarious moment of the night when he ran on stage and bowled Amanda over, exuberantly licking her face!

Human winners included inspirational teenager Lucy Gavaghan, who successfully campaigned to stop supermarkets selling eggs from caged hens and Mike Butcher, the RSPCA’s longest-serving frontline officer who defied death threats to bring some of Britain’s most notorious animal criminals to justice.

And TV comic Paul O’Grady collected an Outstanding Contribution award for his lifelong devotion to animal welfare
